It seems to me far more prescriptive if we automatically label children with the religion of their parents. <br /><br />Obviously the parents are free to teach their children religion, take them to sermons etc - but then again, only within (broad) limits; there can be no harming children or withdrawing them from the state education system in the name of religion. But I would seriously question whether there should be religious schools, which seem incompatible with a multicultural society.
